new project

So I've got a new project for my faithful readers (all 7 of you.) Pick a song that you really like (it can be your favorite song but it doesn't have to be just one that you really like) and explain why you like it. Oh baby...obviously I'll start

thinking.......

thinking.......

thinking.......

ok I'm gonna go with "That's Love" by Brad Paisley. (shoutout to JJ Leach.) The reason I like it (other then the sweet guitar riffs) is because 1) it's super catchy. As much as people say "the words are what count the words are what count!" there's a reason we don't get together on Sundays and just speak the words of worship songs. Melodies, tunes have to be catchy (or used to have to be catchy, apparently people who like Gwen Stefani didn't get the memo.) 2) the words are clever. I'm not gonna copy and paste the song. Go listen it yourself. 3) It's relevant to me personally. I was debating w/ someone about whether it's EVER ok to lie (hence the shoutout.) I was saying that there are times where you can lie. JJ was saying it's never ok to lie. Hence the punchline of the song "That's not a lie, that's love" is especially relevant to me :-).

Personally I like God Moves in a Mysterious Way...because I do. So there. :)

Johnny Cash, Burning Ring of Fire. I Looove Johnny's mournful vibrato and deep voice with the Spanish horns and harmonies.

What are some times it is ok to lie?

Jaime said...

Ok, so I figured out what song it was. Couldn't remember.

I see what you are saying now about the "lies".

Still can't narrow my song down to one. Will keep working on it.

Ok, Jennifer Lightfoot, do you mean "She moves in mysterious ways"by U2?

As for this question, it would be hard for me. Probably, Tough Little Boys, by Gary Allen or There Goes My Life by Chesney. Being a parent has made me a little sappy.
Christmas shoes came out when my mom was dieing so that has a pretty strong spot in my heart too.

The Pressure Air Jingle (still in the process of being written) but is a pretty good one and I don't think I need to explain why :)

Quality, Skill, and Speed, that is who we are...

I like Mystery by Phil Wickham. Great song with excellent lyrics. Plus it's got some pretty cool music. : )

Jake,
Round up the family and come on over to my blog. I want your take on the question I posted. !!! Ms. Lightfoot, you can come once you answer my question in regards to your post here. :)

Joe, "God Moves in a Mysterious Way" is a song that was re-done by some sovereign Grace songwriters. I think it was a hymn.

As for me, I am definitely liking "Breath" by Breaking Benjamin. I don't really know why...it's so amazingly catchy, and rocks.

LOL, Well, I hope I didn't just offend you all. I have another question for Ms. Lightfoot. I have a few Theology books on my shelf written by a...hold one while I get his first name...Ok, I'm back. I have a few books by a J.B. Lightfoot. Any relation?

suicidal is super catchy I'm not gonna lie...I'm diggin there goes my life, Joe, not so much Tough Little Boys. I don't like Gary Allen too much. Jaime I want to hear your answer...NOW!!! :-)

Jake,
I'm not being a smart alec. Do you have kids? Once you hold your little girl in your arms...well Gary Allen brings on a whole new meaning. :)

I like SOOO many songs...one that i particularly enjoy is "The Rite of Spring" by Igor Stravinsky

I love it for its ground breaking sounds and colors. This song dared to go beyond the boundaries of rhythm which had been set back in the early 1900's. It caused great controversy and rioting all over the city which is always exciting and NOW it's one of the most treasured and acknowledged pieces from that century... interesting
anywho, there's one of my fav's

Jake have kids! I forget there are random people here who do not know us. That made me laugh.

Ok, could not narrow it down Jake, but here are some. (def the short list. I love so many songs!)

Mr. Mom - Because it finally says what every SAHM knows.

Sweet Home Alabama - Because it makes me happy everytime I hear it and Kayla belts it out and cracks me up

Still the One (Shania Twain) - My song to PJ

Before the Throne - All time favorite worship song

Happy Jake!!?

Now, there's no need to make fun of the random guy that isn't related. I was just saying that before I had kids I would have agreed with Jake (BTW, how do we get from Lawrence to Jake) but when my oldest was born well that changed my perspective some.

lawrence said...

my full name is Jacob Lawrence Phillips...i go by Lawrence on the blogosphere but of course my fam isn't gonna call me Jake. (that's why sometimes I comment as Lawrence on yr blog and sometimes as Jake.)

Not making fun of you Joe. :-)

Joe, Jake is one of those guys that you blogged about (i think it was you, maybe not) who hide behind another name. :-)

Janelle, you crack me up. I asked you a question in my comments section on my blog. :)

I'm liking "What I've Done" by Linkin Park right now

Hey this project ain't so new anymore.

Whew! I'm back! Um, Joe, not sure if the world could handle the fame linked to my family name...I'll break it to ya little by little.

and definitely NOT U2. ;o)

I am totally curious as to why everyone likes Suicidal. It's such a dumb song, but it is so catchy. Did I answer my own question?

And I love Linkin Park...but I always have...

Still the One...*cough* yeah you dated yourself, Jaime! ;o)

Jake, how many kids did you say you've got?? And WHERE is the link to my blog from yours, huh? You said a few days ago that it would be up by the end of the day....meanie

Jaime said...

Jenn, yes I dated myself...I guess. Although, most of the music I love is from before I was even born.
What makes a song date someone? I mentioned Sweet Home Alabama, but the one that "dates me" is Still the One. Interesting.

Anonymous said...

Jenn,
Your own profile doesn't link to your blog. Whey should Jake? I love "still the one." From this moment is a good one too.

Jennifer Lightfoot said...

*sigh* ok, you're right, Jaime (you're a Phillips, so you have to be right?). I suppose that a song cannot truly date one just because one prefers said song... However, I hate the 50s - you know, Beach Boys, etc. Bleh... I know, I know, burn me alive.

Anonymous said...

Easy, Jenn. I thought everyone liked the beach boys?

lawrence said...

the reason still the one dates you, but Sweet Home Alabama doesn't...is b/c Sweet Home Alabama is such a classic, everyone knows it everyone loves it...Still the One was just a nineties pop song (or country depending on how you look at it...) kind of like "Yesterday" wouldn't date anyone, but "High Above Me" would...
